Generous donation assists ITSOWEL

The Italian Social Welfare Organisation of Wollongong (ITSOWEL) is thriving following a generous $30,000 donation from The Fraternity Cub.

ITSOWEL executive officer Giovanna Cardamone was thrilled to receive the donation on behalf of the ClubsGrants project, which is linked to The Fraternity. She said the donation would vastly assist its members and volunteers.

“The donation will meet the increasing home and community care needs of the ageing Italian community by improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and enabling greater community participation by our elders,’’ she said.

“This is achieved through assisted participation in wellbeing programs, social activities, companionship visits, outings and assistance in accessing Government-funded services.

“The project will have a positive impact on the psychological, emotional and physical

wellbeing of the ageing Italian community and have a strong role in preventing or delaying admission to long-term residential care.”

As the peak body for the Italian community in the Illawarra, ITSOWEL provides support to frail, older people who live in their own homes and are in need of care. Some oservices provided include Home Care Packages (HCPs) and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

ITSOWEL’s vision is to be a quality provider of culturally appropriate services to maintain frail-aged people including those with dementia, whilst welcoming all Australians to continue living in their own homes and actively participating within their community, including the promotion of Italian language and culture.
